Shippenville Area Business Victim of Theft by Deception

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities say a Shippenville business was the victim of fraud by unknown persons in May.

According to Clarion-based State Police, at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 25, a person called a Shippenville area business, claiming to be a police officer.

The police officer, who turned out to be an imposter, said that one of the business’ truck drivers was in an accident and the vehicle needed repairs.

The call was then transferred to a fake body shop in which the caller requested that the business send money to an account for repairs to be made.

The business then transferred the money.

Later, it was learned that the driver for the business was never in an accident.

The above information was released to Explore Your Town, Inc. on June 18, 2017.
