HAWTHORN, Pa. (EYT) – The Clarion County Fair hosted its first talent show on Tom T. Andrews Memorial Stage in front of the grandstand to cap Monday’s first full day of activities, shows, and events.

Seventeen performers from all over the county sang and played their favorite songs while American Idol contestant Isaac Cole thrilled the crowd with several selections before and after the other area performers.

Fair Entertainment Coordinator Paul Stahlman was the emcee for the event.

When the three-person panel of judges, which included a talented group in its own right of Kim Thomas, Mel Michel, and Dr. Roger Tabler, had made their tabulations, Emma Zacherl won the children’s division, Lucinda’s Madison Montana claimed the youth division, and New Bethlehem’s Christy McHenry won the adult division.

Zacherl was a real show-stopper.

The 8-year-old performed “How Far I’ll Go,” a song from Disney’s animated feature film “Moana” with flair and a real stage presence for someone so young.

Zacherl truly delighted the crowd.

Also in the children’s division, New Bethlem’s Brianna Callenburg was second.

In the youth division, Lucinda’s Madison Montana took home the top prize as she proved to be another entertainer with an energetic show.

Montana sang “Almost There,” a selection from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.

The runner-up behind Montana was Joni Zacherl, of Clarion, who sang “Creep.” Placing third was Franklin’s Kayleen Dunkle, who performed “Rise Up.”

In the adult division, New Bethlehem’s Christy McHenry wasn’t anticipating winning, but she did.

“I wasn’t imaging winning, so it’s a pleasant surprise. With all the talented musicians and singers, I thought it would be someone who sang,” McHenry said.

McHenry, a flutist, played “Gift of Love,” a popular selection at many weddings.

Placing second was Karns City’s Davey Whitmire, who performed “Is He Satisfied.”

Taking third with a rousing version of Janis Joplin’s “Me and Bobby McGee” were New Bethlehem residents, Marie Allen and Andrew Nolf.

There was a total of 17 contestants.

The fair continues today with beef, goat, and sheep judging, as well as the Motorcycle and BMX Stunt Show by Solution Action Sports.

The park is located 1 1/2 miles north of New Bethlehem, just off Route 28.
