Ruth J. Chmiel

Ruth J. Chmiel, 76, a longtime, well-known resident of 225 Maple Street, Rocky Grove, died peacefully at 1:22 AM Saturday, August 19, 2017, in her home with her loving family by her side, following a period of declining health.

She was born May 28, 1941, in Somerset, a beloved daughter of the late Chester M. and Rosella G. Mosgrave Weyand.

Ruth was a 1959 graduate of Richland High School, near Johnstown.

For more than 30 years, she had worked as a child caregiver at her home.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed taking walks and going to yard sales. Most important to her always was her family. She enjoyed the fun times she was able to share with them, especially being a big part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Ruth will be deeply missed by all who had come to know her, most especially her family.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was married May 20, 1960, in Bedford to Joseph W. Chmiel, Jr., who survives.

In addition to her beloved husband of 57 years, she is survived by a daughter, Tammy Johnson and her husband Jim of Franklin and by three sons: Jeffrey Chmiel and his wife Mikki, Scott Chmiel and Chad Chmiel and his wife Rhonda, all of Rocky Grove; in addition to her grandchildren: Shanna and husband Jason, Shantel and husband Jodi, Anthony, Mandy and husband Tommy, Ashley, Josh, Gage, Mariah and Ashton; and by 15 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers: Chester Weyand, Jr., James Weyand and his wife Barbara of Woodbridge, VA and Ronald Weyand and his wife Terry of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Barry Weyand.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

A memorial service, in celebration of her life, is being planned by her family and will be announced at a later time.

Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
