Leo-Jez-1503739221Leo David Jez, 94, of Oil City, died, Thursday, August 24, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home.

Born January 30, 1923, at home, in Oil City, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna Sadlowski Jez.

After graduating from Oil City High School in the early 1940’s, Mr. Jez served in the US Army during WWII where he participated in the Battle of the Bulge and guarded German prisoners in Hearne TX.

Leo worked as a welder and maintenance man for J&L Steel and Van Huffel until his retirement in 1985.

He was a faithful member of Assumption BVM Church in Oil City.

Mr. Jez loved being a part of the Friday Night Poker Club at the Pulaski and Eagles Clubs in Oil City, enjoyed bus trips to the casinos, and played in several bowling leagues.

Leo was very artistic and handy and is well known for his intricate woodworking and copper creations.

He was very loyal to his family, and his grandchildren will always remember the weekly dinners he’d take them to on Saturdays when they were younger.

On May 2, 1964, he was married to the former Jean L. Dolby who preceded him in death on August 31, 1998.

Surviving are two daughters, Karen Nason and her husband Ed of Oil City, and Sharon Jez of Oil City; a son, John L. McCauley and his wife Kim of Seneca; three grandchildren, Ronald Shreckengost and his wife Kristi of Boardman, OH, Micah Shreckengost and his wife Lisa of Oil City, and Mindy Wilhelm and her husband Todd of Salem, OH; and 10 great-grandchildren, Danielle Shreckengost, Ryan Shreckengost, Devin Shreckengost, Cooper Shreckengost, Hailey Shreckengost, Ashlee Shreckengost, Cole Shreckengost, Chloe Wilhelm, Chase Wilhelm, and Wyatt Nason.

Also surviving are a sister, Helen Gibbons of Oil City, a special nephew Mike Jez of Erie, two special nieces, Julie Rybak of Oil City and Lori Kosarek of Seneca, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Leo was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Anna Kluck, John Jez, Lottie Fornal, Eva Beck, Loretta Jez, Mary Jez, and Mike Jez.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 4:30 to 8 pm and again on Monday from 10:30 to 11 am.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 am, Monday with the Rev. Todd Wilhelm, Rev. William Hopkins, and Ed Nason co-officiating.

Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Venango VNA Hospice.
