Clarion County Republican Picnic Slated for September 7

CLARION, Pa. — Clarion County’s Republican faithful will have an opportunity to whet their appetites on picnic food and politics at the annual party picnic scheduled for Thursday, September 7.

Party chairman Rick Rathfon extended an invitation to county GOP-affiliated members to join with others of like mind for the annual event, to be held at the Clarion County Park.

Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6.00 p.m.

Along with the food, each attending family is requested to bring a covered dish of generous proportion to share with others, while the party is providing the meat and beverages. The attendees will have an opportunity to hear comments from not only county GOP candidates seeking election in the November general election but also from hopefuls for office at a higher level.

Rathfon said he has reached out to state judicial candidates and invited them to bring their message to the Clarion County party faithful, but presentations will also be available to not only candidates but also to current party office-holders like State Senator Scott Hutchison and Representative Donna Oberlander.

The party chair said he has personally contacted and invited State Supreme Court candidate Justice Sallie Mundy, Superior Court candidate Judge Mary Murray, and Commonwealth Court candidate Paul Lally.

On the county level, presentations are expected from Randall Stom, the party’s standard-bearer for coroner. Stom is seeking to succeed fellow Republican Terry Shaffer, the incumbent two-term coroner who chose to not seek a third four-year term. Stom is presently serving as Shaffer’s chief deputy coroner and was endorsed by party voters in the spring primary election.

Current Republican office-holders who are seeking re-election this fall, and expected to address the gathering, are one of the county’s four district magisterial judges, Duane Quinn, who is unopposed for another term, and Sheriff Rex Munsee, who is seeking a third four-year assignment for his present role.

“Special events to be included in the gathering will be drawings for door prizes as well as prizes for kids,” Rathfon concluded.
