New YMCA Sports Coordinator Has Local Ties

CLARION, Pa. — William “Bill” Richter is no stranger to the sports world. He has been active in sports as a participant, coach, and fan since his early days at East Forest High School in Marienville. Bill was recently hired to fill the Youth Sports Coordinator position at the Clarion County YMCA.

“I enjoy all types of sports and want to promote sports for physical activity,” said Richter, “I’m looking forward to continuing the popular YMCA programs and adding a few new sports, especially for adults.”

While at East Forest High School, Richter played baseball and basketball. He lettered and started in both. Richter’s love for sports was the number one factor in selecting a major in Health and Physical Education with a minor in Public/Community Health with a concentration in Health Promotion at Edinboro University.

Richter graduated from Edinboro University in 2016 and will continue to promote sports through his new position at the YMCA.

“Sports are a great way to promote physical activity while having fun,” said Richter. “The YMCA is the perfect place to learn values like respect, responsibility, caring and honesty through the programs we offer,” Richter noted.

Richter began working at the YMCA in June and has completed a season of YMCA Soccer with over 280 youth. He is looking forward to several upcoming youth programs including Flag Football, a Punt, Pass & Kick Competition, a baseball pitching clinic with Dylan Cyphert of the Miami Marlins and fall and winter Basketball.

Richter is working hard to integrate adult sports in the Clarion Community and will launch Adult Co-Ed Flag Football in just a few weeks. He is hoping to start an adult basketball league this winter.

“We’re happy to have Bill on our staff at the YMCA,” said Jesse Kelley, YMCA Branch Director. “His passion for sports is infectious and I know he will inspire kids to learn and grow in the game with values, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude.”
