Elizabeth L. “Liz” Stephenson

Elizabeth L. “Liz” Stephenson, 60, of 965 Rockmere Rd. Oil City, PA. , died at 5:25 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at her home after battling breast cancer.

Born Aug. 29, 1957, in New York City, NY., she was the daughter of Margaret Weidle Matson.

Liz was a 1975 graduate of Venango Christian High School.

She attended Slippery Rock University, Robert Morris University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned her Masters Degree in Nursing.

Liz was married in 1984 in St. Thomas to Gerald W. “Jerry” Stephenson and he survives.

She had worked as a Professor at Venango Campus/Clarion University for many years.

She was of the Catholic Faith.

Liz enjoyed vacationing at the beach and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed the art of educating future nurses.

The family would like to thank the many former colleagues and students and other professionals who cared for her with UPMC-Northwest, Visiting Nurses Association, and Asera Care Hospice.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Matthew Stephenson & his girlfriend Colleen Daly of Winter Park, FL, Brett Stephenson of Frankfort, KS; one sister, Terri Bauer & her husband Steve of Dallas TX; her mother-in-law, Mary Jo Stephenson of Oil City; sister-in-law, Julie Kelley & her husband Joe of Manteca, CA and their children, Savanah Goodwin & her husband Christian, Dr. Morgan Kelley;
sister-in-law, Mary Jane Verhoff & her husband Jeff of Oil City and their children,
Kurtis Horne, Samantha Horne and Jonathon Verhoff; brother-in-law, Jeff Stephenson, and his daughter Renee Knight & her husband Ryan; sister-in-law, Suzanne Vavala & her husband Dino of Placida, FL, and their children Jennifer Douglas and Angelina Vavala, as well as numerous cousins, including Mark & Chris Weidle of Oil City.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Charles Stephenson.

There will be no viewing or visitation.
