EMLENTON, Pa. (EYT) – The women of the Grieff family have answered the call to public service for several decades by working to help Emlenton voters cast their ballots.

It all began when 90-year-old matriarch Julia Grieff moved from the Eau Claire area to Emlenton as a teenager.

On Tuesday, November 7, Julia’s daughter Linda celebrated her 40th anniversary as Judge of Elections.

“I never thought much about it, but I’m proud to have done it for so long,” Linda said.

When Linda’s husband, Robert, was first asked to run the local elections 40 years ago, Linda was pregnant with their daughter, Lacey McNany. Although Robert hesitated, Linda didn’t, and she has been working at the elections ever since.

Though Linda’s anniversary with the election board is notable, her most memorable celebration in 2017 was her 45 years of marriage.

All three Grieff women were in the Emlenton Civic Club last week to help voters and keep records of those who voted.

“I was actually here 40 years ago, but I hadn’t yet been born,” Lacey said with a laugh.

Linda works at UPMC Seneca in Cranberry, where she has been a nurse for 35 years.

Lacey works in the U.S. Office of Personnel Management Retirement Operations Center in nearby Boyers.
