John N. Barthen

BARTHENjohnJohn N. Barthen, 65, a resident of 420 Tenth Street, Franklin, died peacefully at 6 PM Monday, November 20, 2017 in The Caring Place of Franklin; following a period of declining health.

He was born September 20, 1952 in Pittsburgh, a beloved son of Norma J. Nelson Barthen and the late John A. Barthen.

He was a 1970 graduate of Franklin High School, and attended Thiel College in Greenville; where he earned an associate degree in engineering.

John had worked for more than 40 years at the former Joy Manufacturing Company in Franklin. He began working at Joy as a welder and throughout the years advanced himself, until he earned a position as a supervisor, before retiring.

He was a longtime member of the Franklin Moose Lodge and was a social member of Jesse Greer Post# 1835 V.F.W., Franklin Eagle’s Club and the Franklin Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #110.

John enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing, playing poker and the many trips he made to Las Vegas. John also enjoyed piloting his own aircraft and giving flight lessons as an F.A.A. certified flight instructor. He also was a diehard Pittsburgh Steeler’s, Penguin and Pirate’s fan.

He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin.

He is survived by a daughter, Brooke Pastene and her husband John; his beloved mother, Norma J. Barthen and three brothers: Bryan Barthen, Kevin Barthen and Wayne Barthen.

Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation, nor funeral services.
