UPDATE: New Bethlehem Woman Killed After Car Collides Head-On with Truck

MAHONING, Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion County woman was killed in a Tuesday afternoon head-on crash in Mahoning, Armstrong County.

Sheila Belinda Nair, 74, of New Bethlehem, was traveling north on Route 28 around 3:39 p.m. when her car crossed into oncoming traffic.

Nair’s Volkswagen Passat collided head-on with a Freightliner truck operated by Kenneth G. Plyer, 53, of Kittanning.

Armstrong County Coroner Brian K. Myers pronounced Nair dead at the scene.

New Bethlehem Police Sgt. Nicole Peck told exploreClarion.com that an autopsy was scheduled Wednesday for Nair.

According to Sgt. Peck, Plyler suffered a minor leg injury in the accident and was taken to an unknown hospital.

The New Bethlehem Police Department and volunteer fire departments from Distant and New Bethlehem responded to the scene, as well as Clarion Hospital EMS, according to a representative of Armstrong County 911.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours following the crash. It re-opened around 7:30 p.m.
