Clarion Man Accused of Assaulting Bouncer Awaiting Preliminary Hearing

CLARION TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion man is facing assault charges after allegedly hitting a bouncer at a Clarion bar.

According to court documents, the Clarion Borough Police Department filed charges against 35-year-old Arvin Lavele Hines, of Clarion.

Clarion County Office of Emergency Services dispatched Clarion Borough Police Officers around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, to a private residence on the 300 block of South Street in Clarion for an individual who had an injured hand as the result of an incident at a local bar.

According to a criminal complaint, when officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with Arvin Lavele Hines. Hines told officers that he struck a bouncer with a closed fist at a local bar because he came at him. He said the incident had just happened, and he came straight home and called for the ambulance.

The officers observed that “Hines appeared visibly intoxicated: his eyes were glassy, he smelled strongly of an intoxicating beverage, his speech was slurred, and he was unsteady on his feet,” the complaint indicates.

The officers remained with Hines until medical assistance arrived.

When the officers interviewed the bouncer, he alleged that Hines struck him. The bouncer told police that “Hines had been smoking marijuana inside the bar, so he physically escorted Hines outside. After he turned away, Hines said something that made him turn back to face him. It was then that Hines struck him in the mouth with a closed fist,” according to the complaint.

Police observed swelling around the bouncer’s mouth, as well as a split on the inside of his lower lip. A photo of his split lip was taken as evidence.

Hines faces one count each of misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment.

A preliminary arraignment is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on February 8, at District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office.
