The
4-H youth and volunteers will be actively informing Pennsylvania citizens about the importance of Head, Heart, Hands and Health and the benefits of participating in the program.

The Pennsylvania 4-H program prides itself on emphasizing learning-by-doing. The Forest County 4-H program has eight clubs in the county emphasizing project skills such as food science, leadership, marksmanship, robotics, sewing, and more. Each club elects officers and practices parliamentary procedure during business meetings. Forest County clubs pride themselves on community service and teaching youth how to be active in their community. Members are encouraged to try new projects and activities in 4-H.

The 4-H year runs from October 1 through September 30. Many of the Forest County clubs complete their year by participating in the county-wide Round-Up held in September. Round-Up is the opportunity for members to display or demonstrate what they have learned from their 4-H activities and projects. Each project and club will have varying requirements for round-up. The displays and demonstrations are a means of celebrating the accomplishments of the club and its membership.

Two clubs will be holding introductory meetings during the celebration of Pennsylvania 4-H Week. The public is invited to stop by the Penn State Extension office on Wednesday, March 14, between 5:30 p.m. t0 6:30 p.m .to find out information on the 4-H Robo’s. The club will be working with the EV3 Legos.

The Forest County Straight Shooters will hold their first meeting of the new year on Sunday, March 18, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The club focuses on the 4-H shooting sports curriculum.

Those who would like to learn more about the Forest County 4-H program should contact Jennifer Grooms at the Penn State Extension office in Tionesta 814-755-3544 or [email protected].

The 4-H program is a youth development program of Penn State Cooperative Extension. It is open to all youth between the ages of 8 and 18, without regard to ancestry, color, disability or handicap, national origin, race, religious creed, sex, sexual orientation, or place of residence.
