Monday’s Baseball Roundup: C-L Sweeps Past A-C Valley

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Clarion-Limestone swept a doubleheader from visiting A-C Valley winning Game One 8-4 and Game Two 12-6, six innings.

In the first game, Curvin Goohen drove in three runs in the victory. He was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Christian Smith also doubled while going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Ben Smith was 2-for-3, Ian Hawthorn scored three times and Travis Preston twice.

Hayden Callen got the win in relief of Hawthorn going 6 ⅓ innings allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out 11.

Hawthorn lasted ⅓ of an inning allowing one run on two hits and a hit batter. Smith finished up going ⅓ of an inning hitting a batter.

For A-C Valley, Joe Dehart was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs with Lucas Larimore scoring twice.

Austin Kriebel took the loss in relief of Broc Weigle. Kriebel went 4 ⅓ innings allowing five runs, one earned, on six hits and a hit batter while striking out six. Weigle went 1 ⅔ innings allowing three runs, two earned, on five walks while striking out four.

In the second game, Smith was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and four RBIs, Hawthorn going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and Ayden Wiles going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Drew Beichner also scored twice and David Wiles was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Goheen got the win going five innings in relief allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Smith started and went an inning allowing three earned runs on three hits and two walks and two strikeouts.

Dehart, Tony Thompson and Luke Whitcomb had triples in the contest for A-C Valley with Dehart going 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs and Whitcomb 2-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Larimore scored twice.

Whitcomb took the loss in relief of Kriebel going an inning allowing nine runs, eight earned, on nine hits and two walks. Kriebel pitched 2 ⅓ innings allowing two unearned runs on two hits while striking out one. Jeff Ginn walked the only two batters he faced and Caleb Penny went 2 ⅔ innings allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out one.

REDBANK VALLEY 8, NORTH CLARION 3

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. — Trailing 3-1 going to the top of the seventh inning, Redbank Valley exploded for seven runs to stun North Clarion, 8-3.

Kobe Bonanno started the rally with a leadoff double, and Blaney Brooks was hit by a pitch with one out putting runners on first and second. The runners then each stole a base before Logan Wadding singled on a grounder to third and took second on a throwing error with both runners scoring to tie the game at three.

Cameron Travis then broke the tie with a double to left and came around to score on an error two batters later to make it 5-3. Hudson Martz then doubled home another run to make it 6-3, and Grayson Harman doubled home two to make it 8-3.

Martz had a pair of doubles in the contest, as Redbank Valley had seven doubles in the game with Bonanno, Brooks, Bryan Layton and Travis each adding one. Martz was 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI with Harman going 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, Brooks 2-for-3 with a run scored and Wadding 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Brooks got the win in relief of Harman going a scoreless inning despite giving up two hits and a walk. Harman pitched five innings allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks. Layton pitched a scoreless seventh allowing a hit while striking out one.

Matson Higgins led North Clarion going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Logan Minich was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Bryce Byers was also 2-for-4.

Tyler Wolbert took the loss allowing seven runs, five earned, in 1 ⅔ innings of relief. Zander Hargenrader started and went 5 innings allowing a run on three hits while striking out nine.

MONITEAU 18, FOREST AREA 2, 3 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, Pa. — Jared Lominski, Andrew Dulya and Hunter Fitzingo combined to drive in 11 runs to lead visiting Moniteau to an 18-2, three-inning win over Forest Area at East Forest.

Lominski was 1-for-2 with a triple, a walk, run scored and four RBIs with Fitzingo going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, four runs scored and three RBIs and Dulya 1-for-3 with a double, walk, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Jake Jewart added a 3-for-3 afternoon with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, Nick Sosigian went 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, Nathan Sosigan was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs, Nick Hougg scored twice while going 1-for-2 with an RBI and Gage Neal walked three times, had an RBI and scored twice.

Nathan Sosigian got the win going three innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits while striking out eight.

Noah Burke had a triple, an RBI and a run scored for Forest Area.

MONITEAU 10, NORTH CLARION 0

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. — With both teams playing their second games of the day, Moniteau got its second win in two separate locations with a 10-0 victory at North Clarion.

Jake Jewart was 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Warriors with Hunter Fitzingo also going 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs. Tyler McFadden chipped in a double while going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Lake Pry was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Nathan Sosigian scored twice.

Nick Sosigian threw a three-hitter in getting the shutout win needing just 80 pitches to go seven innings. He walked on and struck out nine.

Matson Higgins took the loss giving up five earned runs. Zander Hargenrader, Logan Minich and Noah Meyers each had hits for North Clarion.

CRANBERRY 7, UNION 2

SENECA, Pa. — Tommy Flinspach and Trevor Gladin combined to two-hit visiting Union in a 7-2 Cranberry win over the Golden Knights.

Flinspach got the win going 4 ⅓ innings allowing two unearned runs on a hit, a hit batter and two walks while striking out nine. Gladin then went 2 ⅔ innings allowing a hit while striking out three.

Flinspach was also 1-for-1 with two walks and an RBI on offense for the Berries with Jacob Umstead going 1-for-1 with two runs scored.

Lukas Salvo was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Union.

Reice Saylor took the loss going five innings allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits, four walks and a hit batter while striking out five. Isaac Yoder gave up an unearned run on two walks while striking out two in an inning of work.

KARNS CITY 8, CLARION 2

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. — Cameron Blair doubled twice and drove in three runs to pace an 8-2 win for visiting Karns City over Clarion at the Clarion County Park.

Blair was 3-for-4 and also scored once for the Gremlins, who also got a triple, an RBI and three runs scored from Tyler Yough, a 2-for-4 with two RBIs performance from Jake Weckerly and a 2-for-3 afternoon with a walk and a run scored from Nolan Riley.

Yough got the win going six innings allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six. Logan Pistorius pitched a scoreless seventh allowing a hit while striking out two.

Spencer Miller was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored for Clarion. Cam Craig and Nate Datko had RBIs for the Bobcats.

Craig took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and a walk while striking out three. Miller gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits and a walk in 3 ⅔ innings and Sterling Conner gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in an inning of work.
