District 9 Releases Baseball Playoff Brackets; Clarion/C-L to Meet in D9 1A Quarterfinals

Clarion-CL Baseball BakaysaBROCKWAY, Pa. (D9Sports) – District 9 released the 2018 baseball playoff brackets Thursday night.

Top seeds are Oswayo Valley in Class 1A, Johnsonburg in Class 2A and St. Marys in Class 4A. The Class 3A tournament is a modified sub-region with District 5 with the two District 9 teams – Moniteau and Karns City – playing in one semifinal and the two District 5 teams – Chestnut Ridgway and Everett – playing in the other with Karns City as the higher seed in its matchup with Moniteau.

In Class 1A, it will be a seven-team bracket with DuBois Central Catholic as the No. 2 seed, Clarion No. 3, Elk County Catholic No. 4, North Clarion No. 5, Clarion-Limestone No. 6 and Cameron County No. 7.

Action will get underway with three quarterfinal games Tuesday, May 22, at the higher seeded team’s field. Oswayo Valley has a bye into the semifinals, which will be played Thursday, May 24, again at the home field of the higher seed. The championship game will be played Tuesday, May 29, at Showers Field in DuBois. The same day the third-place game will be played. The winner of the third-place game will then play the winner of the District 10 championship game between Kennedy Catholic and Jamestown May 31 for the right to enter the PIAA playoffs. The District 9 first- and second-place teams go straight to the PIAA postseason.

The Class 2A field will also include seven teams but with only one going to the PIAA playoffs. The No. 2 seed will be Coudersport with Brookville the No. 3 seed, Cranberry the No. 4 seed, Redbank Valley the No. 5 seed, Curwensville the No. 6 seed and Brockway the No. 7 seed.

Action will get underway with three quarterfinal games – Johnsonburg has a bye into the semifinals – Tuesday, May 22, at the home field of the higher-seeded team. The semifinals will be played at the home field of the higher seed Thursday, May 24, and the championship game will be Wednesday, May 30, at Showers Field in DuBois.

In Class 3A, Moniteau and Karns City will play at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler with the winner advancing to play the winner of the Everett/Chestnut Ridge game Tuesday, May 29, at a District 5 site to be determined. One team will advance to the PIAA playoffs

Class 4A sees a four-team bracket with Punxsutawney as the No. 2 seed, Clearfield as the No. 3 seed and Bradford as the No. 4 seed.

St. Marys will host Bradford at Berwind Park in St. Marys and Punxsutawney will host Clearfield Wednesday, May 23, in semifinal action. The championship game will be Wednesday, May 30, at Showers Field in DuBois. One team will advance to the PIAA playoffs.
