PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) — Over sixty future soldiers, recruiters, and family members of the Clarion Army Recruiting Company gathered at the Punxsutawney Army Reserve Center on May 19 to get a taste of what the regular army had to offer.

Throughout the day, future soldiers trained on the Route Clearance Simulator, a software-based program that integrates full-size mock-ups of vehicles currently in service with the United States Army with a simulated environment, testing their leadership and decision making skills.

Applicants also had the opportunity to disassemble the M4 carbine, M249 squad automatic weapon, and the M2 .50 caliber heavy machine gun.

Following these events, the future soldiers were divided into four teams for a graded portion that included a physical training challenge, testing push-ups, sit-ups, and tire flips.

The second event of the day concerned leadership skills and challenged soldiers to build the tallest structure in seven minutes without verbal communication.

Following that event was a challenge that tasked future soldiers in disassembling and reassembling the M4 carbine in the fastest time possible.

Finally, the last event was a retrieval challenge that involved the TALON EOD robot, where future soldiers were instructed to navigate a course to recover objects under a time limit.

Daddy’s on Main Street in Clarion provided catering services for the event.
