Shippenville Man Facing Felony Charges After Allegedly Choking, Punching Woman

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A Shippenville man is facing felony strangulation and related charges after allegedly choking, punching, and slamming the head of a woman during a dispute early Monday morning.

Court documents indicate that the Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Markco Angelo Gervasoni, of Shippenville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, Markco Angelo Gervasoni and a known female began arguing at a location along Main Street in Shippenville.

Gervasoni became angry and started “throwing the victim around on the floor.” The complaint states that while the victim was on the floor, Gervasoni placed his hand around the victim’s neck/throat and squeezed with enough pressure to restrict her breathing.

According to the complaint, when the victim attempted to defend herself, Gervasoni punched her in the face, causing her nose to bleed, and then slammed her head off the floor.

After the victim was able to get to her feet and get away, Gervasoni grabbed her by the shirt and slammed her into a doorway causing a large lump on the right side of her forehead.

According to the complaint, while the victim ran to a neighbor’s residence for help, Gervasoni fled on foot, leaving his 6-year-old child and two neighbor children, ages six- and eight-years-old, alone in the residence.

The victim was transported to the Clarion Hospital Emergency Room by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

Gervasoni was arraigned at 10:23 a.m. on Monday, June 4, in Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk’s office on the following charges:

– Strangulation — Applying Pressure to Throat or Neck, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $1,000.00 cash bail, he was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, with Judge Turk presiding.
