SIGEL, Pa. (EYT) — The Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad and several other agencies responded to a residence on State Route 949 in Sigel on Tuesday evening for a report of suspected dynamite.

According to a representative of the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, a resident near the Sigel station was doing some cleaning and found what she believed to be dynamite.

A representative of Jefferson County Emergency Management said that Sigel Volunteer Fire Department, the Marienville-based Pennsylvania State Police, Jefferson County EMS, and Jefferson County EMA were dispatched at 5:42 p.m.

The state police bomb squad investigated and discovered that the items in question were not dynamite; they were actually old five-minute flares.

The roadway was closed for several hours during the investigation.

The scene was cleared at 9:26 p.m.
