Mildred Catherine (Karkosky) Brocious

150x231-5824497Mildred Catherine (Karkosky) Brocious, age 91, was welcomed to her Heavenly home, on Tuesday, August 21, 2018.

She passed away of natural causes, on the farm, where she was born on October 24, 1926, near Brookville, PA.

Millie was the youngest of three daughters and born to the late Joseph and Anna (Sushereba) Karkosky. She married Emerson Brocious, seventy-one years ago, on August 16, 1947 in Hawthorne, PA. They then moved to Erie and raised a family of seven girls and one boy.

They were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints early in their marriage. They were sealed to each other for time and eternity in the Logan Utah LDS temple on July 5, 1961. Both were dedicated to the Lord and served diligently in many church assignments such as a mission at the LDS Toronto Temple.

Millie liked to read and write poetry. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, baking, cooking and canning, and was always encouraging her children to help. She made beautiful smocked pillows and aprons. She loved to sing and would frequently break out in song, often making up words for the lyrics she couldn’t remember. She loved and grew beautiful flowers. Her children remember her often staying up late at night typing their school papers, playing cards or other games, and going on a pizza or New Yorker hot dog runs. She loved her family and was devoted to them. Millie was hard working and enduring. We love her dearly.

In addition to her beloved husband, Mildred is survived by her eight children; Vicki (Ronald) Muir; Karen (Ignacio) Briones; Janie (Frank) May; Linda (Charles) Jones; Cheryl (Leroy) Reed; David (Lee Ann) Brocious; Laurie (Russ) Karl; and Debbie (Ed) Takacs. Their large posterity consists of 67 grandchildren, 138 great-grandchildren, and 18 great, great-grandchildren. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters; Helen and Margaret; and one great-granddaughter.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday August 25, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St, Brookville, PA 15825. A second visitation will take place on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 2 – 3pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maplevale Rd, Brookville, PA 15825. We will celebrate our mother’s life with a funeral service also at the church on Sunday, August 26, 2018 beginning at 3:00pm and officiated by Bishop Bryan Neal. The interment will be at the Brookville Cemetery.

Our dear Mother will be greatly missed.
