CU Wrestling Picked to Finish Third in EWL, Zacherl Picked to Win 149 Pounds, Bulsak 197 Pounds

In addition, Brock Zacherl (149) and Greg Bulsak (197) were predicted to claim individual championships at their respective weights.

Individual rankings were done on a 5-4-3-2-1-0 basis, with coaches not allowed to vote for their own wrestlers. Ties were broken based on the wrestler who was ahead on more ballots. Team rankings were done on a tournament-points rubric, on a 12-9-5.5-3.5-.5 scale for the top five wrestlers at each weight.

Zacherl was one of six wrestlers unanimously predicted to win his weight class, with the redshirt senior making the leap to 149 pounds for the coming season. He is a three-time NCAA qualifier that reached the quarterfinal round at the NCAA Championships a year ago, as well as the 2016 EWL champion at 141 pounds. Zacherl has gone 79-11 in the last three seasons and has not lost a dual match since his redshirt freshman season in 2015-16.

Bulsak compiled a 21-9 record as a redshirt freshman last season and was an EWL finalist at 184 pounds. The EWL Freshman of the Year, he earned a trip to the NCAA Championships with what was a literal last-second victory at the EWL Championships, beating Bloomsburg’s Trevor Allard in a true second-place match.

The Golden Eagles were also predicted have other top contenders in the conference. 2017 NCAA qualifier Jake Gromacki returns to the lineup after missing nearly the entire 2017-18 season and was predicted to finish second at 133 pounds; Evan DeLong is projected to take third at 165 pounds; and Toby Cahill was predicted to finish third in the heavyweight weight class.
