Circuit Breaker Causes Thursday Power Outage

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — A power outage effecting 4,352 customers of FirstEnergy (WestPenn Power/Penelec) occurred for just over an hour on Thursday afternoon.

According to FirstEnergy spokesperson Scott Surgeoner, the power went out at 12:46 p.m. and all power was restored by 1:55 p.m. for a total outage time of one hour, nine minutes.

“A circuit breaker tripped,” Surgeoner said. “Right now, we don’t know why.”

About 2,331 of the 4,352 outages were in Clarion County.

A detailed description of the areas involved in Clarion County follows:

– Beaver Township — Fewer than five customers, out of 638
– Clarion Township — Fewer than five customers, out of 1.704
– Elk Township — 29 customers, out of 307
– Farmington Township — 925 customers, out of 1,239
– Highland Township — 22 customers, out of 22
– Knox Township — 322 customers, out of 332
– Paint Township — 802 customers, out of 802
– Salem Township — Fewer than five customers, out of 171
– Shippenville Borough — 21 customers, out 296
– Washington Township — 204 customers, out of 578

There were also just over 2,000 customers affected in Forest County in the following areas:

– Barnett Township — 277 customers, out of 414
– Green Township — 230 customers, out of 231
– Howe Township — Fewer than five customers, out of 189
– Jenks Township — 1406 customers, out of 1406
– Kingsley Township — 84 customers, out of 85

The incident remains under investigation.
