Clarion Woman Accused of Breaking into Neighbor’s Apartment, Huffing Duster to Be Sentenced This Month

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – A Clarion woman who allegedly entered a neighbor’s apartment without permission and huffed duster is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.

According to court documents, 52-year-old Melissa Ann Schill, of Clarion, will be sentenced at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, in front of President Judge James G. Arner on two separate cases.

Schill pleaded guilty on May 23, 2018, to the following offenses:

– Criminal Trespass, Enter Structure, Felony 3 (April 20, 2017 incident)
– Smell/Inhale Toxic Releasing Substances, Misdemeanor 3 (November 6, 2017 incident)

As a result of the plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed:

April 20, 2017 incident:

– Burglary, Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 1
– Loitering and Prowling at Night, Misdemeanor 3
– Smell/Inhale Toxic Releasing Substances, Misdemeanor 3
– Possession Solvent For Release of Toxic Vapors/Fumes, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment — Course of Conduct with No Legitimate Purpose, Summary
– Public Drunkenness and Similar Misconduct, Summary

November 6, 2017 incident:

– Possession Solvent For Releasing Toxic Vapors/Fumes, Misdemeanor 3

Schill is currently free, awaiting sentencing.

Details of the April 20, 2017 case:

According to a criminal complaint, on April 20, 2017, Clarion-based State Trooper Shapiro was on patrol when he received a call about a woman entering the kitchen window of man’s apartment at 437 South Second Avenue.

The victim told Trooper Shapiro that Melissa Schill entered his apartment window at approximately 9:34 p.m. with a can of duster in her hand. As she entered the building, she inserted the duster into her mouth and depressed the trigger while inhaling the chemical compound inside, the complaint states.

Schill allegedly admitted to Trooper Shapiro that she “inhaled the duster in order to get high.” One 12-ounce can of Ultra Duster Aerosol was in plain view on the bedroom floor in Schill’s apartment, the complaint indicates.

Schill was placed under arrest and taken to PSP Clarion.

She was arraigned in District Judge Timothy Schill’s office on April 21, 2017.

Bail was set at $25,000.00 unsecured.

November 6, 2017 Case:

Clarion-based State Police arrested Melissa Schill on November 13, 2017, stemming from an incident that occurred in Monroe Township.

She was arraigned at 2:00 p.m. on November 14, 2017, in front of Magisterial Judge Schill on the following charges:

– Smell/Inhale Toxic Releasing Substances, Misdemeanor 3
– Possession Solv For Releasing Toxic Vapors/Fumes, Misdemeanor 3

She was lodged in the Clarion County Jail on $2,500.00 monetary bail.

Charges were waived for court on May 1, 2018, with Judge Schill presiding.

Her bail was posted by a professional bondsman on November 1, 2018.
