Winter Weather on the Way

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — A winter storm is on its way, bringing with it messy roads and travel headaches.

As the winter season advances, so does the elements of a Western Pennsylvania wintry mix — freezing rain…sleet…snow…ice…and frigid temperatures.

On Wednesday night, there is a chance of snow in the Clarion County area with not much accumulation, perhaps a half of an inch.

Nevertheless, the weather is expected to change on Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh, Clarion County and the surrounding counties — Forest, Venango, Butler, Mercer, Jefferson, Armstrong, and Indiana — will experience a wintry mix.

The weather service issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, to 1:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, for northwestern and west-central Pennsylvania.

Snow is forecasted to begin at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday and will peak mid-morning before changing to sleet and freezing rain by mid-day.

The area should expect a total wet snow accumulation of two to four inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

Even so, a considerable amount of uncertainty in the expected precipitation type should be noted.

If warm air is not as strong as expected, precipitation could remain as snow with much higher amounts.

At any rate, expect slippery roads with periods of snow, sleet, or freezing rain and limited visibility.

Travelers are advised to make sure to check the road conditions before departing by checking 511pa.com.

Following Friday’s period of rain and snow, the remainder of the weekend will see cloudy skies and intervals of snow.
