Rev. Mearl Everett Henley

Thumbnail-70Rev. Mearl Everett Henley, 90, of 341 E. Jamestown Rd., Greenville, (West Salem Twp.), PA, formerly of 92 Chambers Ave. in Greenville, passed away at 1:55 am on Monday, December 17, 2018 at The Heritage at St. Paul’s in Greenville.

He was born in Ernest, PA on September 4, 1928 to the late, Delaus Arthur and Grace Alta (Cramer) Henley.

Mearl graduated from Reynoldsville High School in 1947. He received his BS of Education from Edinboro University in 1959, a Bachelor and Master of Sacred Theology in 1962, and a Doctor of Divinity in 1977, all from Wesley Theological Seminary.

Mearl was a past member of the Greenville Rotary Club, North East Exchange Club, and North East Kiwanis Club.

He was a retired United Methodist minister and a proclaimer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Mearl served as a United Methodist minister in the following towns: Harborcreek from 1962-66, Johnsonburg from 1966-70, Calvary United Methodist Church in Greenville from 1970-78, and North East from 1978-94, where he officially retired. He moved back to Greenville in 1994 where he remained.

Mearl is survived by his wife of 69 years at home, Dee Ann (Spencer) Henley. They were married on September 10, 1949. Also surviving are: two sons, Rev. Dennis M. Henley, and his wife, Kristine, of Grove City, PA, and Donald E. Henley, and his wife, Nancy, of Grove City, PA; one daughter, Joyce White, and her husband, Ronald, of Jamestown, PA; three sisters, Oral Shobert of Vermilion, OH, Ruth C. Reiter of Sykesville, PA, and Alma G. Peisner of Rochester, PA; one brother, Allen D. Henley of Rochester, PA; four grandchildren, Sharon (Henley) Hamley, and her husband, Scott, of New Florence, PA, Carolyn (Henley) Welshonce, and her husband, Thomas, of Wexford, PA, Michael White, and his wife, Meredith, of Jamestown, PA, Allison (Henley) Wejuli, and her husband, Sam, of IL; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one sister, Myrtle Necci, and her husband Anthony, two brothers, Robert D. Henley and Clair F. Henley, and two brothers-in-law, Don Reiter and Ronald Shobert.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 44 South Mercer St., Greenville at 11:00 am on Friday, December 21, 2018, with Rev. Paul O. Mitchell, visitation pastor of the church, officiating. One hour of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 am — 11:00 am at the church. Cremation will take place prior to the services.
