Six D9 Girls’ Basketball Teams in Class 1A/2A Get Playoffs Started Tuesday

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (D9Sports) — Six District 9 girls’ teams get their 2019 playoffs underway Tuesday with a pair of quarterfinal contests in Class 1A and one quarterfinal contest in Class 2A.

In Class 1A, fifth-seeded Otto-Eldred tangles with fourth-seeded Cameron County while sixth-seeded Elk County Catholic takes on third-seeded North Clarion.

The Class 2A game features sixth-seeded Keystone vs. third-seeded Port Allegany.

CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS

No. 6 ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC VS. NO. 3 NORTH CLARION
When and Where: 6 p.m. at Brookville High School
Winner Gets: Winner of Northern Potter vs. Coudersport game
Records: ECC 11-11, North Clarion (16-6)
ECC Leading Scorers: Taylor Newton (16.8 ppg), Sady VanAlstine (8.1 ppg)
North Clarion Leading Scorers: Abby Gatesman (13.7 ppg), Mackenzie Bauer (10.5 ppg), Haley Sherman (7.2 ppg), Gabby Schmader (7.0 ppg)
Last District 9 Title: ECC 2010 in 1A; North Clarion 2018 in 1A
Notes: North Clarion has won back-to-back D9 1A titles and is trying to become the first team to win three in a row in 1A since Coudersport won four straight from 2001-04 … This is the third time in four years these teams have met in the 1A playoffs with the other two meetings coming in the semifinals. ECC beat North Clarion in 2016 while North Clarion beat the Lady Crusaders last year.

NO. 5 OTTO-ELDRED VS. NO. 4 CAMERON COUNTY
When and Where: 6 p.m. at St. Marys High School
Winner Gets: Top-seeded Johnsonburg
Records: Otto-Eldred 14-8; Cameron County 15-7

Last District 9 Title: Otto-Eldred -Never (Last title-game appearance 2017); Cameron County — Never (Last title-game appearance 2003)
Notes: This is the third meeting of the season between these NTL foes. Otto-Eldred won the first one, 51-42, at O-E Jan. 2, while Cameron County defended home court, 50-36, Jan. 24.
