Dean E. Magness

Magness PhotoDean E. Magness, of Limestone Township, passed away on March 9, 2019 at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

He was 79 years of age.

Dean was born on December 3, 1939 in Monroe Township, Clarion County, the son of the late Merle and Mary (Swartfager) Magness.

In 1964, he married the former Diane Humphrey who preceded him in death in 2007.

In 2008 he married Cathy Smith who passed away in 2009. Dean was engaged to Margie McAdoo at the time of his passing.

Dean is survived by his step-son, David Smith (Kim) of Clarion; his step-daughter, Theresa Maher (Mike) of State College; and his god-daughter, Cori Ames of Shippenville.

Dean was especially proud of being a grandfather, and adored spending time with them; Brandon and Courtney Smith; Stephen, Mitchell and Megan Maher; and Charli Ames.

In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Jackie Kuhn of Tionesta.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; and his sisters, Betty, Thelma and Lois.

Dean was a life member of the National Rifle Association, the Harley Owners Group, and New Rehobeth — Greenville Presbyterian Church.

He loved riding his motorcycle and taking trips, hunting, and being active with the Men’s Group at church.

In 1962, Dean and his father opened and operated their own gun sales and repair shop.

He was proud of that accomplishment and liked to talk with people about their firearms.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dean’s name to the New Rehobeth — Greenville Presbyterian Church, 1419 Rehobeth Church Road, Clarion PA 16214.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the New Rehobeth — Greenville Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Dietrich presiding.

Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery, Limestone Township.
