New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Department Chief Barry Fox requested assistance from the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Unit to determine the cause of the structure fire at 1162 Summit Ridge Road, in Porter Township, Clarion County.

Fire Marshal Kathleen Watters assisted with the investigation.

Chief Fox told exploreClarion.com, “We rummaged through the ruins and debris of the barn, and the cause was undetermined.”

“We did discover that a small greenhouse — non-functional — was also destroyed in the fire.

“Luckily, no animals perished in the fire. We pushed a couple of cattle out of the way, so they were saved.”

The farm is being operated by a tenant, according to Chief Fox.

One barn, its contents, and a small greenhouse were destroyed, while a second and third barn were damaged from the blaze.

Damages are estimated to be around $140,000.00.

There was no insurance.

Clarion County 9-1-1 said the call came in at 4:35 p.m. for a report of a structure fire at 1162 Summit Ridge Road.

Clarion Hospital Ambulance and the following volunteer fire departments were dispatched to the scene: New Bethlehem, Hawthorn, East Brady, Limestone, Rimersburg, and Distant (out of Armstrong County).

The scene was cleared shortly after 6:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
