BARKEYVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — A traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Barkeyville Borough led to a number of charges for two Florida residents, one of whom was already wanted on an active warrant in Florida.
Court documents indicate the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation filed criminal charges against 29-year-old Kayla Meaghan Miller and 36-year-old Edward Earl Nevels, both of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
According to a criminal complaint, around 12:46 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, Trooper Knott, of the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, conducted a traffic stop on a Dodge RAM bearing a Florida registration near mile marker 29.8 of Interstate 80 westbound in Barkeyville Borough.
According to the complaint, the driver was identified as Edward Early Nevels, and a female passenger, who initially gave a different name, was ultimately identified through fingerprints to be Kayla Meaghan Miller.
The complaint notes that a search of the vehicle revealed the following stolen items belonging to known victims from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Wyoming:
- a New Jersey license plate,
- numerous credit cards,
- numerous identification cards,
- two pairs of eyeglasses
- pepper spray,
- and two handbags.
According to the complaint, it was also determined the stolen credit cards were used in numerous instances to obtain or attempt to obtain products or services.
The complaint states that the search also discovered glassine bags with narcotics residue (either heroin or fentanyl, according to Miller), and Miller was determined to have a full extradition warrant for her arrest from Broward County, Florida, for heroin possession.
Nevels and Miller were arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland on the evening of Wednesday, April 3.
They each face the following charges:
– Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 2 (six counts)
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor (two counts)
Miller also faces one third-degree misdemeanor count of false identification to a law enforcement officer.
Both were lodged in the Venango County Jail with bail denied. Court documents list “Flight risk. Will not appear for Court proceedings,” as the bail action reason.
They are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
