Kenneth (Ken) C. Orr

KennethKenneth (Ken) C. Orr, 79, formerly from Franklin, died peacefully in the early hours of Friday, May 17, 2019 at Oakwood Heights nursing home in Oil City after suffering the aftereffects of a stroke during the past year.

He was born August 9, 1939 and raised in Indiana, PA by Mary Beulah (Henry) and Kenneth R. Orr. He is survived by two daughters: Michele Orr-Gray of Wexford, PA and Suzanne Orr Beach of Franklin, PA, plus 3 grandchildren: Kyle Ditzenberger, Kate Ditzenberger and Sophia Beach, all of Franklin. Preceding him in death was sister, Shirley Treese, of Indiana, PA. His remaining sister Donna and her husband, Sparky, live in Indiana, PA. Ken also has several nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

His wife, Carol L. Orr, also preceded him in death in 2010. Until then, Ken enjoyed traveling with her to Charleston, SC, the Isle of Palms, plus as many Spanish-speaking countries as they could get to. Ken enjoyed sampling local unidentifiable delicacies along the way and only occasionally paid a price.

Ken had an extremely diverse career. After a short stint in the army, he became a Pennsylvania State Police trooper and was stationed in the Franklin area. He was a truck dispatcher for Daniels’ Transfer for many years. He owned and maintained numerous apartment rentals in town through the years. He owned a small restaurant, The Franklin Dairy Store during the mid-1980s, where he kept the wheels running smoothly as well as manning the grill!

More recently, he enjoyed a calm, quiet existence, content to drink a Rolling Rock and walk his little fuzzy dog. In fact, many people in Franklin knew him simply as “that old bald guy with the dog on the corner of 14th and Otter.”

All family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours to be held at the Huff-Guthrie Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 312 West Park Street, Franklin on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm.

Immediately following will be a short, low-key Time of Remembrance for anyone who’d like to stay.
