  • Tyler O’Neill continued his power surge, and Paul Goldschmidt came up with a piece of timely hitting to give the Cardinals a series win, 6-5, against the Pirates on Wednesday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
  • It’s watch list season and Penn State sophomore wide receiver KJ Hamler was named to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award for the National Player of the Year while junior defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos and sophomore linebacker Micah Parsons both landed on the preseason Bednarik Award watch list for the National Defensive Player of the Year.
  • High School Football America released its rankings for the top 10 states for high school football Wednesday, and Pennsylvania came in at No. 7.
  • Penn State football announced the preliminary fundraising total for this year’s Lift for Life event is $56,018. All of that money will go to Uplifting Athletes, a non-profit that supports rare disease research and awareness.
  • Penn State was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten East behind Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State in a preseason poll conducted by Cleveland.com. A total of 34 media members who cover the Big Ten participated in the poll.
