Mustang Crashes into Amish Buggy in Knox Area

SALEM TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police said a passenger car operated by an 89-year-old Knox man collided with an amish buggy in Salem Township on Saturday evening.

According to police, around 6:06 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, Walter G. Ritts, 89, of Knox, was operating a 2015 Ford Mustang, traveling east on State Route 208 in Salem Township, Clarion County.

Police say Ritts was cresting a hill when he approached a horse and buggy, operated by 33-year-old Sam E. Byler, of Knox, and struck it from behind. After the impact, both vehicles pulled off the road.

Byler and his passenger, Barbara S. Byler, 29, of Knox, also escaped injury.

Ritts’ vehicle sustained minor front-end damage. Byler’s buggy sustained disabling damage due to losing its driver’s side rear wheel in the collision.

Ritts was cited for a speeding violation.
