Local Man Looking Toward the Future with Los Angeles Internship

IMG_20131213_142356CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion local Steven Sproul is dreaming big as he prepares an internship as a production assistant in Los Angeles.

Sproul, 21, who is currently a senior at Huntington University in Indiana, graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School.

He chose Huntingdon University because of its film programs and LA internship.

Sproul says he pursued a career in film because he likes, “telling a story through the visual side.”

“I feel like video or film brings that story to life. I’ve always enjoyed movies as a kid, and I always read independent comics. I think they were all triggers that lead me to film,” adds Sproul.

Currently, Sproul is on winter break from school and is back in Clarion; but with his coming final semester, he will be moving to LA where he will intern as a production assistant.

“I’m looking at LA, (after graduation) because some people that go to intern there do stay, just depends on jobs. I’m also looking at moving to Pittsburgh because I have a connection there,” says Sproul.

As a college freshman, Sproul traveled to Haiti on a mission trip and made a 10 minute documentary on an orphanage.

Sproul has worked on various projects in and out of school, including documentaries for Woods High Mountain Distillery, in Salida, Colorado; Fort Wayne Ballet in Fort Wayne, Indiana; and Working Bikes in Chicago, Illinois.

Sproul won an “Addy” award for his Fort Wayne Ballet and Working Bikes documentaries. “Addy” is an award from the American Advertising Federation for their film competition.  He is planning on entering again this year with his senior film.

Sproul had the opportunity to intern and make promotional videos for Noah’s Ark Whitewater Rafting Co. and Adventure Program Ltd., in Buena Vista, Colorado.

“They’ve had interns from Huntington before, and when the previous one wasn’t returning, they sent out an email, and I applied and got it. I produced promotional films and staff videos,” continued Sproul.

In Sproul’s future plans, he hopes to travel to South Africa to be a production assistant on a movie titled, “Day of War.”
